How you live, and your non-negotiables

Home state, religion, food, smoking, drinking and marital history, plus up to three things you won't compromise on.

On the How you live page, you tell us your home state (and hometown, if you like), your religion (or prefer not to say), your diet, whether you smoke or drink, and whether you've been married before. Where you're from shows on your card, like "From Thrissur, Kerala".

You can also choose up to three non-negotiables:

  • A religion (the same as yours, or ones you choose)
  • Speaks my language (at least one of the languages you pick from your own)
  • From my state (or states you choose)
  • Vegetarian only
  • No smoking
  • No drinking
  • Never married

"From my state" leaves fewer people you can be paired with at an evening, especially in cities where many people grew up elsewhere. "Speaks my language" usually gets you what you're after with fewer people ruled out.

They work both ways: at an evening, you won't be paired with someone who rules you out either. The page shows a rough idea of how many people your choices leave, once there are enough people to count.

There are no filters for caste, community, complexion, height, income or education, and there never will be.
